Due to it's tendency to spread and take over gardens, peppermint grows best in containers where it can be managed. Mint tends to grow in clumps while establishing, but soon will grow and sprawl horiztonally to conquer new territory. To keep your plant contained, prune regularly and pull or pick unwanted growth.
You can begin picking mint leaves as soon as the plant has produced enough leaves to sustain growth at least 20 cm (8 inches)in height. Harvest leaves individually, or cut stems 3 cm above the soil for regrowth. Make sure to harvest before your plant starts to flower, or you will lose some of the distinct peppermint taste and smell.
Several studies suggest that peppermint oil can speed up the movement of food through the stomach, relieving digestive symptoms and some stomach upset.
