Cinnamon Basil

O. basilicum var. thyrsifola

This basil plant stays true to its name, delivering a spicy, cinnamon-like flavour. It is tall, fast-growing, with distinctive violet stems and flowers.

Germinates in: 5-10 days. First harvest: 50-60 days. Second harvest: around 80 days.

Pinch the growing tips when the plant is at least 15 cm (6 inches) tall. This will promote leaf growth and prevent the plant from growing too lanky; If your plant flowers, pinch the flowers off and use them as a garnish!

Begin lightly harvesting once the plant has matured between 50-60 days. Harvest just before the plants begin to flower – snipping above the node – or waiting for flowers to develop and enjoy their spicy flavour. Be careful as the leaves can be easily bruised when harvesting!

High in vitamins A, C, and K. Contains important minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium and linalool.

Cinnamon basil was taken to the International Space Station by the space shuttle Endeavor for a growth experiment!
